Morocco Adventures- Part 1
Laura Longville
“Moroccan hospitality is world-renowned. Moroccans are known for their warm welcome, generosity, and willingness to go out of their way to make guests feel at home.”
This is how Morocco is described in an advertisement. It also happens to be how I experienced Morocco.
I’m reflecting on my trip to Morocco. It was a spectacular time with friends and colleagues far away in another land and culture different from mine.
We spent ten days there, exploring the country's diverse landscapes and cultures. We started our trip in Marrakech, the country's most popular tourist destination.
We ventured out into the medina, a maze of narrow streets, alleyways, and markets that is home to over 100,000 people. The medina is a fascinating place to experience Moroccan culture and buy souvenirs. “Haggling” for a good price is a skill I successfully learned and an exciting part of the Medina experience!
Most Memorable
We had many amazing experiences while in Morocco, and my most memorable was an electric-assist bicycling trip in the Atlas Mountains with Radouane. He is a local Berber guide from the village of Imlil that escorted us through the breathtakingly beautiful mountains and valleys of the area.
We were invited into a local home to share a mouth-watering, traditional Tagine meal. I appreciated being openly invited into their home and their willingness to share the uniqueness of their culture. It’s a place in the world where time seems to stand still, and warm hospitality is at the center of who they are. An absolute must-do when visiting Morocco.
My traveling companion and I joined up with a group of new and familiar friends at Peacock Pavilions, a Persian garden company in Marrakesh. A sanctuary to restore and rejuvenate our body, mind, and soul. We shared heart-to-heart conversations; we laughed, we cried, we rode camels and horses along the ocean, we spent the night in a Berber tent on an ocean hillside, swam in our birthday suites, got Henna tattoos, ate way too much food, celebrated a 52nd birthday. All our lives are forever changed.
I had an unforgettable time in Morocco, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and impressive travel experience with Epona Retreats.
